300 Hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training

The New Day Yoga 300-Hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training is designed 1) for those who have completed a 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training registered with Yoga Alliance and 2) for serious yoga students who desire to deepen their personal study of yoga.

Overview

The course is comprised of 6 Modules with each beginning on a Monday at 3pm and ending on a Saturday at 2pm. Each Module provides you with 45 contact hours of instruction and practice and a minimum of 15 non-contact hours of personal study. You may begin your 300 Hour Training with any one of the six Modules, as each Module is a separate and stand-alone course.

To receive the 300-Hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training Certification, all modules must be completed within a 4-year period. (If you do not desire the certification, you may take as long as you like to complete them.) The Modules may be taken in any order. Each one is a separate study of a specific chakra, its corresponding anatomy, asana, energy, psychology, physiology, philosophy and spirituality. As with all New Day Yoga trainings, classes, and courses, this one is from a Christian perspective. Although traditional concepts and yoga philosophy are included, it is the Bible that remains the authoritative final word on the topics studied.

Module Topics

All Modules include the study and practice of 1) Asana, 2) Anatomy, 3) Principles of Alignment, 4) Pranayama, 5) Chant, and 6) Meditation, as well as 7) Neuroplasticity (Mind-Body Connection), 8) Kinesiology, 9) Ayurveda, 10) Yoga Philosophy, 11) the Biblical/Christian Lifestyle and 11) a comparative study of traditional yogic texts with the Holy Bible. For each Module, participants are required to 1) teach an 85-minute asana class, selecting postures from the asana studied, and including an assigned mudra, pranayama, and meditation while on site at the training, and, 2) prior to the training, complete reading assignments and assigned study questions.

Location

The Benedictine Sisters Retreat Center is located at Sacred Heart Monastery, 916 Convent Road, NE, Cullman, AL 35055. This facility gives the 300 Hour Training an atmosphere of ease and rest even as we work to complete our studies. The Retreat Center is two hours north of Birmingham and three hours west of Atlanta. Our group will be staying in St. Joseph’s Retreat House. Each participant will have a private bedroom and bath (unless you have a roommate to share a room with you). Each room is furnished with a dresser, desk and chair, and rocker. St. Joseph’s also has a spacious kitchen and common room, with a front porch overlooking the tranquil grounds of the monastery.

 

Cost: Training and Accommodations

The current cost of each Module is $1275. A non-refundable $350 deposit is required at registration. The cost includes fifty hours of instruction, a manual for the Module, lodging for five nights and all meals from the arrival night dinner to departure day lunch. Our group will also have use of the new retreat chapel, a separate meeting room for our yoga practices, the outdoor labyrinth, and a private dining area. Space is limited to 12 participants.

Dayna Gelinas, E-RYT 500, is the Founder, Director and Administrator of the 300 Hour Training. Together she and Donna Cross teach the Mind/Body Workshops, the Chakra Workshop, and the Ayurveda workshop for each Module. Dayna develops the curriculum, creates the assignments, and leads the NDY Team. Her background covers Vinyasa, Viniyoga, Iyengar, and Anusara styles of yoga, and the teaching of English for 22 years. Lori Smith, E-RYT 500, is the Anatomy Teacher of the 300 YTT and is affectionately known as the anatomy “engineer,” inspiring others with her detailed knowledge and powerful application of physical anatomy and kinesiology. Together she and Sharon Green teach the Anatomy, Asana, Sequencing and Kinesiology Workshops for each module. Lori evaluates the anatomical teaching of the teachers-in-training, meeting with them one-on-one to develop their teaching of asana and their personal yoga practice. Her background covers Iyengar, Anusara, and the Sadie Nardini methods of yoga practice, as well as engineering at NASA. Lori currently teaches weekly classes and retreats in Huntsville, AL. Donna Cross, E-RYT 200, RYT 500, is also a Certified Music Practitioner CMP (Harp), and an RN. Her compassion and medical knowledge provide her with the perfect background to teach the Mind/Body component of the 300 YTT. Her specialty is Neuroplasticity, which is the ability of the mind to change and renew itself. Together with Dayna Gelinas, Donna leads the Mind/Body Workshops, the Chakra Workshop, and the Ayurveda workshop for each Module. Donna also teaches the Art of Contemplation, the Practice of the Sacred Hours, and Yoga for Insomnia. Her yoga studies include Vinyasa, Viniyoga, and Iyengar. Doraine Bennett, E-RYT 200, RYT 500, is affectionately known as the “Chaplain” of the 300 YTT. Her multiple and unique experiences, in co-counseling and co-pastoring with her husband Cliff, enrich Doraine’s nightly chapel times with wisdom, humor, fun and quirkiness. Along with Dayna Gelinas, Doraine teaches the Mudra, Pranayama, and Meditation components for each Module. Her background includes Iyengar, and the Sadie Nardini methods of yoga practice. Sharon Green, E-RYT 200, RYT 500, is a “Jill-of-All-Trades.” She assists Lori Smith in teaching the Anatomy, Asana, Sequencing and Kinesiology Workshops, Dayna Gelinas in the presentation and explanation of the assignments, and also leads the Yoga Sutra Workshop for each Module. Her specialty is taking complicated aspects of anatomy, kinesiology, assignments, and philosophy, and making them easily digestible. Her background includes Sadie Nardini’s Core Strength Vinyasa Flow, Vinyasa and Iyengar styles of yoga practice. Sharon teaches weekly classes and retreats in the Chattanooga, TN, area.
