Class Descriptions

Absolute Beginners – An introduction to yoga terms, postures, equipment, breathing techniques, and meditation. Come discover why there is nothing to be afraid of! Come see just how much yoga you are already doing in your everyday life! Come see why yoga is for YOU! This class will continually review the absolute basics of yoga. This is the perfect class for someone who is brand new to the practice or for someone who wants a refresher course on the fundamentals. 60 minutes.

Breathe, Meditate & Relax – This class will focus on the meditative aspects of yoga. Yoga postures for the hands (mudras), breathing techniques (pranayama), concentration and chanting, meditation and contemplation, and a final resting pose (savasana), will all be practiced allowing for a quieting of the mind and a deep relaxation of the body. For all students. 60 minutes.

Stretch & De-Stress – This class is a combination of gentle postures, mostly done while seated, reclining or lying on the belly, with additional restorative postures. By supporting the body with props, we alternately stimulate and relax the body to move toward balance. All restorative poses create specific physiological responses which are beneficial to health and can reduce the effects of stress-related disease. For all students. 90 minutes.

Yoga Basics 1: Strengthen, Balance & Align – An ongoing class that teaches the technique of hatha yoga including proper alignment in basic poses, breathing, and relaxation. This class will build strength, flexibility and body awareness. It is a weight-bearing practice that improves posture, balance, and focus, and introduces the principles of muscular and energetic energy. Students are encouraged to go at their own pace and modify postures as necessary. For 1) beginners who already have awareness of body alignment and control and 2) for experienced students who want to continue practicing the basics. 90 minutes.

Yoga Basics 2:  Focus, Function & Freedom – Builds on the basics of yoga with more challenging postures, including full inversions and backbends. This class will concentrate on anatomical function and the more subtle aspects of alignment. We will coordinate movement with the breath, incorporating more flow sequences. Muscular and energetic principles will be covered in more detail. Core strengthening and flexibility are emphasized. For experienced yoga students who have a good understanding of correct body alignment in the basic postures. 90 minutes.

Yoga Hikes – We will begin by warming up with standing poses, then hike for 30-40 minutes, Next we’ll stop, sit, breathe, and meditate for 20-30 minutes. The hike will resume for another 30-40 minutes before we end by cooling down with some final standing poses. For all students. 180 minutes.

Private Sessions – An opportunity to assess your flexibility, strength, and range of motion. Each session is tailored to your specific needs or goals. Many beginners like to start with a private session to determine which class is best for them. Experienced students use a private session to deepen their understanding about their body or to work on a specific posture, breathing technique or meditation.

All Classes – All New Day Yoga classes are taught from a Christian perspective using Bible scriptures to renew the mind as the body is being strengthened and restored. Each class begins and ends with silent prayer and scripture meditation.

Workshops are an opportunity to experience, and learn, some of the most difficult things in life — love and acceptance for yourself and others, and trust in God’s goodness. As you take in new information, as you move your body into a familiar pose in a new way, as you breathe more deeply, as you chant and sing new songs, as you quiet your mind—all kinds of unexpected things can appear—both inside and outside.

Your response to these unexpected things becomes the measure of your growth. Are you accepting? judgmental? critical? kind? Your awareness of your response to these things is yoga in its truest form. Eternal work takes place in your body, heart, and mind, as you choose to surrender your attitude about yourself and receive God’s attitude for you.

Join us in one of the upcoming workshops and discover the freedom to accept yourself right where you are. All workshops include a yoga practice, an opportunity to shop in the New Day Store, and various other elements depending on the focus of each one. Call or email if you’d like more details. Reserve your spot early as space is limited and workshops tend to fill up quickly.
